La Cerdanya it treasures unique spaces of great natural beauty and offers a wide range of possible places to see and enjoy: landscapes, nature, architecture, history...

La Tosa d'Alp (at 2,536m altitude), rain (the curious Catalan enclave in French territory), the Santiago's road as they pass through the region, their jewelry Romanesque, the towns of Bolvir, bellver, Martinet or the “capital” itself Puigcerda, are just a few suggestions to explore the region and recharge your batteries with healthy and delicious air local gastronomy.

La Tosa d'Alp (2,536 m)

La Tosa or El Pedró dels Quatre Batlles - since four municipalities converge in its highest area, at an altitude of 2,500 metres: Das, Urús, Alp and Bagà. The views from this point are of great beauty and the view is lost to the surrounding peaks and beyond. The beauty of visiting La Tosa is that it is accessible to almost everyone.

rain

Llívia, a mandatory visit. You can spend an interesting day there, especially for those who like and enjoy history and the best culinary offerings in the area. The current Llívia is at the foot of its castle, a fortification in ruins under restoration. In the old town, the Bernat de So tower and the church bear witness to its medieval past.

The Llosa Valley

A still wild valley, a hidden place with good landscapes where the Muga lakes stand out, a highly recommended itinerary. The valley of La Llosa was used a few years ago by smugglers and bandits, and also by the muleteers who transported the iron that was extracted from the mine located in Pimorent.

Way of Saint James (Cami de Sant Jaume)

This great itinerary of pilgrims crosses the Cerdanya, following the royal road. It starts from Llívia and takes us almost to the other end of the region, to Bellver de Cerdanya, following the Segre river. On its journey, landscapes and places of maximum tranquility and unique corners such as the area of Santa Maria de Quadres are discovered.

Romanesque churches and hermitages

For lovers of the Romanesque, this region has authentic jewels. They cannot fail to visit some of the many churches in La Cerdanya. We would highlight the visit to the churches of Olopte, All and Saga, in Isòvol and Ger, Santa María de Talló, Sant Andreu de Baltarga or Sant Julià de Pedra, in Bellver de Cerdanya or Sant Esteve de Guils de Cerdanya...

Isòvol - Esterregalls D'all

Isòvol, explore its old town and tourist areas on foot and on the outskirts of its nucleus, there is a very interesting area from a geological point of view: Esterregalls d'All. It is probably one of the most impressive examples of badlands in Catalonia and has the added value that it is the last witness to the lignite exploitation that took place in La Cerdanya.

Espai Ceretània, in Bolvir

L'Espai Ceretània is the center for dissemination of the archaeological heritage of Castellot de Bolvir, one of the few Iberian settlements located in the Pyrenees. To date, only 20-30% of the total area of the deposit has been excavated.

Puigcerda

Capital of the region, with multiple services and cultural and leisure activities for everyone. In the Plaza de Santa Maria de Puigcerdà, it is interesting to climb to the top of the bell tower. Highlights include the Estany de Puigcerdà and the Schierbeck park, the Museu Cerdà, the Cabrinetty square, the Casino Ceretà, the Sant Domènec Convent and the Call square.

The Puigpedrós (2,915 m)

Puigpedrós, the highest peak in La Cerdanya, an easily accessible peak but also with a climb up to 2,915 meters. Its ascent, from the Malniu area, allows us to go around the top and contemplate the beauty of the d'Engorgs lakes.

Chaos of Targasona and the Pico de los Moros

Go up to the peak of the Moors, crossing through a very interesting area: the chaos of Targasona (hundreds of granite blocks are scattered generously over a wide area of land that delights climbing fans). From here to the top, about 2,130 meters, it will take just over an hour. The view from the top is very interesting since the entire valley of La Cerdanya is presented at your feet.

Prat del Cadi

Going up to Prat del Cadí, it is unique and of maximum natural beauty, having a view over the channels and the walls of the Cadí that will dwarf you. Practically the entire route runs within the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, an area with great biodiversity and countless tourist attractions.

Ruta dels Segadors, from Bellver to Gósol

The route of the Harvesters, is 9 hours, about 30 km on the way, round trip. Of great beauty and recent history. It is one of the most used steps of the Cadí. This itinerary connects Cerdanya with Berguedá, from Bellver to Gósol. This route was used by the Cathars when they fled from the Inquisition and, more recently, by seasonal workers who crossed to do work in the fields, mostly as harvesters, on the cultivated lands of La Cerdanya.

A little history of the Cerdanya

The historic region of Cerdanya (in Catalan La Cerdanya, in French Cerdagne, in Latin Ceritania) is a territory, which as a consequence of the Treaty of the Pyrenees of 1659, between the Kingdom of Spain and the Kingdom of France, by which Spain ceded 33 towns in the northern part of Cerdana to France, was divided into two: the region of Alta Cerdanya, which is part of the Eastern Pyrenees, that is, the territories administered by France, and Baja Cerdanya, which is part of Spain, within the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. The region limits with Andorra, the Ariège, the Capcir (part of Cerdanya when it was divided), the Conflent, the Ripollés, the Berguedá and the Alt Urgell. All the towns of Alta Cerdanya were ceded except the population of Llívia because it holds the title of town; for this reason Llívia is an enclave of Spain in France.
