Traditional gastronomy of the Cerdanya

The cuisine of La Cerdanya is marked by its condition as a mountainous plateau, with an alpine climate and a great variety of landscapes, together with a long tradition of livestock farming and the proximity of the French and Occitan cultures, which contribute to the particularity of its gastronomy.

The region offers an enormous wealth of mountain food products that are the basis of its tasty traditional cuisine and one of its main tourist attractions.

Its forests, its inland plains and the orchards bordering the Segre River present a great diversity of native products, such as Cadí-Moixeró mushrooms, numerous derivatives of pork (such as the famous black or white "bull"), duck, beef, lamb, game meat, vegetables such as the Talltendre turnip, cottage cheese, delicious cheeses, or the tasty “trinxat de Cerdanya”.

In addition, a good part of the products made from these foods have obtained the Denomination of Origin of the Ceretana region, contributing to its reputation as a unique gastronomic paradise in Catalonia as a whole.

Trinxat is the most typical meal of La Cerdanya, consisting of minced cabbage, potatoes and bacon, which is to be enjoyed especially in winter.


Duck is undoubtedly one of the most popular dishes in Catalan cuisine, and also in La Cerdanya, where it has become part of the "repertoire kitchen" in many of its restaurants.


The mató or cottage cheese sweetened with honey is a typical dessert from La Cerdanya, made with milk from native cows.


The Cheese and Butter of Alt Urgell and Cerdanya are created from Friesian cow's milk from cattle farms in the area.

The Yogurt that they produce in La Cerdanya is a 100% natural Yogurt with a creaminess and incomparable taste.
